A Rich History

Calamity Jane's Kitchen and the Gold Pan Saloon have an interesting story to share. The Gold Pan Saloon is the oldest saloon in Custer, and it also has the oldest liquor license in Custer. Calamity Jane's Kitchen's history is a bit of a mystery, however, it is rumored that Calamity Jane herself once worked in the building when it was a hardware store.

Calamity Jane's kitchen was also once the home of Frontier photo, a photography studio here in Custer. After that era ended, new owners came in and transformed the building into a cozy coffee shop. As if things couldn't get any better, the building was bought yet again, adding a grill to serve burgers and sandwiches.

However, the real turning point came when John Parker, the owner of the Gold Pan Saloon, acquired Calamity Jane's. With the combining of the two businesses, whether you're in the mood for a casual bite and a cold beer at the bar or craving a more leisurely dining experience next door, there's something for everyone.
